The Black Sheep Brewery Visitors Centre is the ideal place for a day or evening out. You can take a tour of the Brewery, have a meal in the Bistro and Baa...r and buy souvenirs from the Sheepy Shop.

Middleham Castle (English Heritage)

 

Before the present castle was built in the 12th century, a Norman motte-and-bailey fortification existed at Middleham. The earthworks of this fortification survive to the south west of the existing castle. The principal building on the new site was a formidable stone keep, one of the largest in England. During its heyday in the 15th century, extensive improvements were made and it became the childhood and favourite home of Richard III.

The racing stables at Middleham house nearly 500 horses, which can be seen daily walking through town on their way to the moorland training gallops above the town.

 

Tennants Auctioneers

 

Tennants is the biggest auction house outside the M25 and is placed close to the Hall in nearby Leyburn. Winner of the BACA Award for Best Regional Auction House in 2001 and Auctioneer of the Year 2002. The purpose-built Auction Centre in Leyburn is situated in rolling Yorkshire countryside.

Market

On Fridays there is an open-air market in the square and livestock sales at the auction mart.

Ripon Cathedral

 

There has been a church at this location since AD 672 when St Wilfred built it. The current building includes fantastic carvings amongst other beautiful things you can see.

Richmond

 

Founded by the Normans in 1071 the town grew up around the castle built on the 'riche-mont' or 'strong-hill' that gave the town its name and whose massive keep dominates all other buildings around.

Millgate House Garden

The garden at Millgate has been featured in publications around the world. Although a small garden its situation overlooking the River Swale with the waterfalls in the background and the intensive planting make it unique and very special.
