Thorpe Perrow

Middleham Castle (English Heritage) Before the present castle was built in the
12th century, a Norman motte-and-bailey fortification existed at Middleham.
The earthworks of this fortification survive to the south west of the
existing castle. The principal building on the new site was a formidable
stone keep, one of the largest in England. During its heyday in the 15th
century, extensive improvements were made and it became the childhood and
favourite home of Richard III. Distance: less than 9 miles (13 minutes drive)

follies and surprises. The Racing Stables The racing stables at Middleham house nearly
500 horses, which can be seen daily walking through town on their way to the

Tennants is the biggest auction house outside
the M25 and is placed close to the Hall in nearby Leyburn. Winner of the BACA
Award for Best Regional Auction House in 2001 and Auctioneer of the Year
2002. The purpose-built Auction Centre in Leyburn is situated in rolling
Yorkshire countryside. Distance: less than 10 miles (20 minutes drive)

There has been a church at this location since
AD 672 when St Wilfred built it. The current building includes fantastic

World Heritage site. The Abbey is one of the most complete remains of a
Cistercian abbey in Britain dating back to 1132. North Yorkshire's own

in 1071 the town grew up around the castle built on the 'riche-mont' or
'strong-hill' that gave the town its name and whose massive keep dominates
